The Datahiders.txt file is actually a datahiders.jar, which contains all the relevant files. Just download the file, and rename it to datahiders.jar, which will then be accessable for all the needed files to run the program

Definition and explanation, alternative to cryptography, can also be used in conjunction with ciphers
Uses – watermarking, data hiding, avoid suspicion, hide data in any format, usually digital
History- 440 BC wax tablets, shaving heads of slaves, invisible ink
Attacks:

  • data analysis based on standards of photography/wav format, etc,
  • steganalysis
  • statistical analysis
  • analyze against known cover material

defenses:

  • extra noise
  • unchanged pictures
  • encrypted hidden message

Data security is based on the fact that people aren’t looking for it, and can’t look for it in today’s massive digital age (think of youtube, flickr, etc)

Similiar, but not quite the idea of security through obscurity

Coding projects:

  • java demonstrate hiding messages in standard image formats
  • java demonstrate hiding messages in standard audio formats (.wav)
